Restless in Chesapeake

8/31/08
Sunday

Hello to both of you blog readers out there! I hope I'm not to optimistic in my evaluation of readership. The comments have been very few. This makes me believe that not many people are taking the time to read this blog. Even emailing the majority of my address book about new blog postings does not seem to have helped. I have developed cabin fever, being stuck in the motel since Thur. That is a big contributer to my feeling that nobody cares about what I am attempting do with this blog. Also, not having any transportation to see the sights and sample the local seafood has me in a real oyster stew. I think I need to look into getting a little motorized bike to take with me. Come on people, it is not that difficult to log in and leave a comment. Leave a comment and cheer up the old truckerman.

Sorry about not commenting. I finally had a second to set up an account so I can comment. I really enjoy reading your blog. I can not fathom how tired you must be. I bet you are seeing alot though. Are you counting down the hours to the end of training? I would be!! Things here are about the same. I finally found a job and I start on Wed. It's delivering furniture (not my ideal job) but it's a job. Things here in NC are just so ecnomically depressed. So many people out of work. I am putting out a bunch of resumes for other jobs as well. I am trying to get a job as a contract diver. Yes. DIVER not driver. I had a job offer years ago to be a special effects safety diver for one of the shows in Vegas, but I turned it down. I have regreted it ever since. So, they have several positions open now and I am going to try my luck. Anyway, take care of yourself and please keep blogging.

Matt

Still loving the blogs...no matter the topics!!! It would be nice if you could see some of the parts of the country while you are on a break. It is a shame to miss some of the sites you are so near!!! BUT don't forget, you have to catch up on your rest and it may change your prespective of getting back to work and sleeping on the washing machine!!!!
Invest in a book, a deck of cards, and a journal book. That with a bed and a tv may relieve some of the boredom......but I know it will not get you out crusing the local vicinity. Head up, cheer up and know that we are thinking of you and really enjoying staying in touch with you through these blogs. pj68

Ah c'mon, TM. You got at least 3 readers!
Cabin fever sucks. Where are they warehousing you anyway? The Ritz, right? I assume these layovers won't be an issue when you have your own truck since you'll just head home when you get a few days off? The pace should slow, too, since you can't drive round the clock, right?
When do you get a CB handle? That's when you'll be a real trucker. Do truckers even use CBs anymore? Truckers all travel with pet monkeys, too, right? I saw it on a 70s TV show so I know it must be true.
PC gave us a scare last night but the T-dogs pulled out a W. Can't say the same for the Tigers. Anybody know if XM or Sirius covers I-AA games? My guess is no, but if they do we'll have to get you one so you can keep up with the Terriers on the road. Let us know when you think you'll get back to the 'Burg so we can plan to see you.

I must be doing something wrong. I keep having to reregister every time. Maybe this one will take.
Sure sounds like you have raging case of cabin fever. You'll look back on this confinement longingly in about another week.
Is son of sure it was a monkey? I thought it was a bear. Monkeys take up less room. I'll be checking the classifieds.
Can't wait to see where you'll go next. Are you keeping a log?

"Is son of sure it was a monkey?" - Ye of little faith. It was a monkey named "Bear". (Show was BJ & the Bear.) By th way, you have to sign in everytime you post but you don't have to re-register. I haven't seen a "remember me" box you can check to skip that but I'm working from my handheld so the view is different.
TM, as long as Ted is cool with it you should post about what he's like.
Also, how do you stuff we all take for granted? Like washing clothes - do you have to take enuf for the whole time you're gone? Where do you wash clothes if not? And what if your bladder magically becomes that of 4 year old girl swilling grapefruit juice every time you get behind the wheel. Not that this ever happens to me but if it did, I'd just stop because nobody's paying me by the mile. (In fact I get paid by the hour so a few minutes is no problem for me...) I guess you have to shower in truckstops? What if you get sick while you're on the road? Do you hunt down a doc in the box? And if you're too sick to drive, do you have to just cool your heels in the cab at some truckstop (in which case, I'd not be sick for long)?
Gotta run. Ice Road Truckers is on. Wonder why none of them has a monkey? Maybe they missed the show.
